Kathryn Klaber, former head of the Marcellus Shale Coalition, hopes to bring the lessons she learned at the helm of Appalachia's most prominent energy association to her new role as a business consultant.
Her newly formed Klaber Group offers services such as economic analysis and water assessment to firms with a footprint in the Marcellus Shale. The office will be just north of Pittsburgh in Sewickley, Pa.
Klaber's clients will include oil and gas companies, energy services firms, and downstream manufacturers, all of which she expects will benefit from her insight into the many levels of the regional shale industry (EnergyWire, May 16, 2013).
Consulting is an approach Klaber hopes will allow her "to be able to touch as many of the issues going on in oil and gas," she said.
Klaber has selected several partners to work with her on consulting projects, including water operations and finance expert Ron Pettengill.
"Katie has recognized that water management in the current environment has moved from not just the tactical but to the strategic," Pettengill said in a statement yesterday. "Efficient water management, especially for shale producers, can help drive profitable results."
Pittsburgh law firm Babst Calland, another one of Klaber's partners, has recruited her to serve in an advisory role to its energy and natural resources group.
"She is as knowledgeable as anyone when it comes to the subject of shale development as well as the industry's environmental issues," said firm shareholder Chester Babst.
Klaber said energy interests around the world are watching Marcellus firms to see how they are handling environmental and regulatory concerns amid a natural gas boom. Companies in the region have learned a lot of lessons that other operators shouldn't have to repeat, she said.
"There's a lot of appetite out there around the world to understand what we've done here and how we've done it well," Klaber said.
